Lake Worth Sailing Club

Fort Worth, Texas

We are located on the north shore of Lake Worth about 1/2 mile west of Casino Beach.

Our Address is 4054 Pennisula Club Cir. Fort Worth, TX 76135

Established in 1935, we are a private organization dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing. Members are encouraged to participate in racing, cruising, social events and other related activities.

We race almost every Sunday afternoon and have parties usually monthly. Members are expected to help in the maintenance and improvements made to the club, grounds  and docks.

Members pay a monthly membership fee plus extra for other items they may use such as wet slips, trailer storage, and boardboat dock space.

Membership is limited to 75 members but it is not uncommon for us to have positions open.

The club was established as a private organization in 1935 for the purpose of providing to its members; recreational sailing opportunities, sailing related social events and facilities to support these key activities. Annually the club sponsors a variety of social events and sailing races including seasonal Series races and a number of special event races. (See the enclosed Special Events schedule for details.) Most leisure sailing is done during the week and on Saturdays while racing events are usually held on Sunday afternoons and holiday weekends.

History and Purpose

Club Owned Sailboats

The club owns a fleet of eight Santana 20 sailboats.  Once you have been certified you can use the club boats on a first-come, first-served basis.  *(After sailing please enter any equipment problems in the S-20 Log and notify the Fleet Captain or one of the club officers so repairs can be scheduled.)

Member Responsibilities

We are a small club with a limited membership due to boat space and facility restrictions.  General use facility maintenance and repairs are performed by club member volunteers.  The same is true for Santana 20 maintenance.  However each member is responsible for the upkeep of their assigned slip, dock space (for board boats) and/or trailer space.

Also, facility maintenance events are scheduled monthly throughout the year and on an as-needed basis.  *(Please contact the Vice Commodore to indicate your skills and availability.)

Dues Payment

Club dues and slip fee amounts are posted at the club and included here.  You may pay monthly or in larger installments.  Please be aware that dues are the life blood of the Club and members who are behind 3 months or more are subject to membership revocation. See "Membership" for current due and slip rates.

Club Newsletter

The club newsletter “The Tiller” is emailed to members bi-monthly and posted on this  web site. Also hard copies are available at the club shortly after publication. (Special mailing arrangements can be made in exceptional circumstances by contacting the club Secretary or an officer of the club.)

Special Events

Frostbite Race & Chili Cook Off

The race occurs in January and is open to all members.  Racing starts at noon and is about seven miles long.  It takes place regardless of weather conditions (almost).  We have encountered everything from sunny skies and seventy degrees, to snow, freezing temperatures and a frozen lake.  After the race and Chili judging the eating and story telling begins.

Opening Weekend

This has been the official start of the Sailing Season since club formation in 1935 when the club was primarily comprised of Snipe sailors.  The two day event is held on a Saturday and Sunday in the Spring with trophy races for Sunfish, board boats and auxiliary boats.  The event is one of the largest of the year due to the typical good weather and the broad range of racing venues.  There is usually a dinner on Saturday and Sunday afternoons after races have concluded.

Commodores Cup

A special race taking place on July 4th , sailed in the club boats.  Current and past Commodores are eligible to be skippers.  After the race there is typical 4th of July fare followed by watching the fireworks displays of surrounding cities and towns.

Grubbs Cup

A three-race event on Sunday and Monday of  Labor Day weekend.  All members are eligible to participate. The event is kicked off with a Shrimp Boil on Saturday Evening.

Becker Series

A five race series limited to Catalina 22’s, held in September and October. (Our club’s Catalina 22 championship regatta.)

Commodore’s Party

Held the last Saturday in October, permitting the Commodore to say thanks prior to the election of new officers the next day.

General Meeting and Election of Officers

Held last Sunday in October.  Officers for the coming calendar year are elected by the membership.

Annual Banquet

A Friday or Saturday, December event to salute those who have sailed well, defied the odds by actually winning a race (or not), done well, kept us going, and/or kept us laughing in the process.

Parade of Lights

A December event when we decorate our boats and parade around the lake shores to pass along some holiday cheer.  It’s usually on a Saturday and starts just before dusk.  After the parade we gather at the club to warm by the fire and socialize.
